Hello, I just purchased the following package http:// on Ebay in order to make upgrades to my gaming PC. The motherboard is a 970 Gaming CFX/SLI Motherboard and I currently have a Nvidia 680 Sli. I have a 500gb WD Blue HDD in my PC running Windows 10 Pro (released a few days ago). Is my hard drive compatible with the new motherboard? (I'm almost positive it is) And how do i transfer the Hard Drive to the new motherboard? Can I just plug it in and expect it to work?

Well, the simplest way is to just plug it in, format, and reinstall, but that of course leaves you with a lot of work of reinstalling all your other programs too. You can always try to just hook it up and try to boot everything and see what happens. It shouldn't break or corrupt anything even if it fails. If it doesn't work, then you're probably headed for the fresh install route.
Most likely it is. What are you upgrading from? What was your old mboard? If you just plug the hard drive in, it should just boot up. Keep in mind that if this board is quite different from your last one ( particularly if you're coming from an Intel build ), that it will need to load a lot of new drivers and might ask you to reactivate Windows.

The best way to do this is to boot your normal computer and uninstall any motherboard specific drivers and suites ( mainly your audio and network card ). Then transfer the hard drive and boot.

If your hard drive is fairly old, it's possible it's an older PATA interface which won't work with the new motherboard.

Thank you for the insanely fast response! I have currently a Nvidia 608i Sli Motherboard which is i guess kind of old. I am switching to this board to avoid the pricey intel cpus and to go with AMD instead. What is the SIMPLEST WAY to put this hard drive right into the new motherboard?
P.S. The new board will be here on the 6th and there is some drivers such as my tendnet internet adapter driver that is a pain in the ass to get back on because using the installer installing windows 8.1 drivers doesnt always work so i have to wait it off to fix itself. Would it be easier to just wipe my hardrive and install windows 10 via flash drive to get just all new drivers and say screw the old ones? Before you say yes, please list other options XD.
- Thx The Mr Iggs
