Been trying to find the best section to post this to get the best answers.

Anyhow, I've been thinking about getting a decently budgeted workstation for my school/professional career and forced into it since the lappy took the final dive into the grave after these years.
So I got a $500 budget and found these two seemingly off lease and CHEAP older workstations, but I'm mixed. Im 99% convinced that the quadro 2000 would serve me better as it's a workstation gpu dedicated to these things, even if it is 3(?) Generations old. Plus I won't really be doing any gaming. But I'd like to hear everyone out on this.

Preface; I'll be mostly using 3DS Max, Maya, Unity, Unreal, Flash, and various video editing programs like Adobe CS Premiere and Vegas.

Or hell, if you could find me something even better to beat that price point, by all means share it.

Those programs can and will use GPU's as a CO-processor... and anything in your price range is "inferior"

I am not a Gamer... I have been building workstations and using AutoCAD/Cadkey and Audio production software since the intel286.
Don't let the term 'Workstation" go to your head when comparing CPU's and GFX cards... its pure Numbers crunching after the day has ended, and all Current software will use what ever OS Graphics driver and CPU you have installed to...

Hey and thanks for answering. I know that most quadro series are re branded gaming line with differing drivers, thanks for including that info though for other users.
That also seems decent for the money, but would require a gpu purchase on the side. Also the machine you linked's processor seems inferior compared to the Xeon for these workloads. Also the gpu would throw it over the budget/relative price point of those workstations if added. Also the fact that you're once again recommending a gaming gpu.

STILL rather have a direct answer to the thread's title question in terms of which gpu is better for these programs/work load
Again,
"I won't really be doing any gaming"
"I'll be mostly using 3DS Max, Maya, Unity, Unreal, Flash, and various video editing programs like Adobe CS Premiere and Vegas."

Ok..
You still have yet to answer the thread's main and TITLE question and reasons as to why.
The recommended machines Im taking note of/saving though, I still would really like an answer to the title question lol.

Hello... http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=Quadro+2000
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+GTX+660
GTX 660 will crunch more data/numbers faster...
I have Xeon e3 1240 V2's in the field... they are the same physical CPU as a i7 3770 but without IGT on them... I can get them used for $200 and they are great number crunchers... http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Xeon+E3-1240+V2+@+3.40GHz
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7-3770+%40+3.40GHz
In your price range and product availability look for an i5 system using this performance comparison... http://www.cpubenchmark.net/common_cpus.html
But please don't consider using a really outdated GPU just because it is a "workstation" video card. Software Titles have made their software to accommodate "non-workstation" video cards.

Yeah... those synthetic benchmarks are always a bit iffy when it comes to testing workstation GPUs and their special workloads.
I gave this a good once- Er, few times over;

http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/workstation-graphics-2013/benchmarks,146.html

Which is why I was torn, of course the 660 is a much stronger card but when in these actual 3D rendering programs the quadros and other workstation gpus seem to perform better as I can only assume is because of their specialized drivers/bios for these programs which is what Im mostly going to be using and not gaming.

Though I'll take into consideration that you're an expert on this stuff and lean more toward the gtx 660 atm, but I'd like to hear other input on this.
