My friends computers hard drive died and he needs his product key. He has a secondary hard drive that still works.
How do i retrieve windows product key from a computer with a dead hard drive? Is it possible?

If the machine works in any form, open an elevated Command prompt by going to c:\windows\system32 and right clicking on the fle cmd.exe and selecting RunAs Administator.
At the prompt, type slmgr and press Enter. Look down the menu for the command that displays the Product Key (I'm on Linux here so I can't be more specific) and that will show you the current key.
