What's a good HDD for recording footage to? Also what makes Fraps/DXtory lag/stutter when recording?

From what I hear, any 7200 RPM drive is capable of keeping up with Fraps/Dxtory.

If this is so, could you guys possibly tell me what else causes video slowdown when recording with either of the programs? For example, does having multiple files on a 3TB hard drive affect the performance when recording? And will having games saved to the HDD below hinder its performance?

Only reason I ask this is because I will be building this soon - http://pcpartpicker.com/p/qKMWsY and I was curious if I saved some of my Steam games to the HDD, would it have a negative effect on my recording performance?

Any response is and always will be taken into thought.

I don't think it would have a negative impact at the start but maybe after the drive gets more than half-full, it may have a little performance decrease. What I recommend is to have a 1TB fast drive for just your recordings and games and a bigger 2 or 3TB drive for archiving all your footage.
