simple question no simple answer,
How far can I run a cat6 wire from a Poe switch to a router? The router then goes into a gateway (uverse) so i could put the router on the switch end or on the gateway end .. any difference there?

Simply - no. Max Cat5/6 run is close to 100m / 300ft. In order to cover 900ft, you must either use two repeaters in the middle (that is, switches), or convert to fiber-optic at both ends. If you have clear line of sight, you might also check WiFi / WiMax options.

And about PoE (the Power part): Cat5 cable is a cable with known, resistance, so there will be (significant) power drop over the distance of the cable, so there must be other power source in between for these repeaters / switches.

Quite simple.

CAT cables single run unaided 100 meter max.

REPEATED, repeaters must be powered, Google for spec on POE transmission, how long, wire gauge, max power provided.

Running copper cable in the open, between buildings should have lightening arrester for safety of the human.
