I want to remove everything and reinstall windows 8.1. I already have the CD, but don't seem to have the product key. So do I need the product key if I'm going to remove everything and reinstall windows? Kinda need this since its my first time reinstalling windows. This computer came with Windows 8.1 installed on it.

You will propably need the key, check this website for procedures to retrieve the key from your Windows install (http://www.howtogeek.com/206329/how-to-find-your-lost-windows-or-office-product-keys/?PageSpeed=noscript).
Edit. It might be built in in case of laptops atleast, but never hurts to check before you wipe everything.
