So I've heard that activating second channel module in the memory significantly improves the performance of gaming in APUs so yeah I'm obviously looking to make use of my second slot.

APU: A8 6410 2.4Ghz with R5 Graphics
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 8570M 2GB
RAM: 4GB DDR3 1600hz

My RAM runs currently at 800mhz. Do I need to upgrade to 8GB or would 6GB just do it?

Solution
The HD 8570M has its own dedicated memory. It isn't the same as the system memory.
But having more system memory will help because with a gfx card with 2GB VRAM, the system has to set aside an almost equal amount of memory for its buffer. So having more system memory will help.

As long as you have both channels populated with a memory stick (in the correct slots if more than 2), you will be in dual channel mode. Where are you getting your RAM speed from? CPU-Z? If so, 800MHz means it is running at (800x2) 1600MHz in dual channel mode.

+1 and CPU-Z in the Memory tab will tell you if in single or dual channel mode

I just downloaded CPU-Z and it says Channel: Single in the memory tab.

Yep it says single. My Notebook lets me to upgrade up til 8GB, so 8 GB it is gonna be then. Thanks.

Keep in mind... dual channel memory is very picky about the 2 sticks in opposite channels matching exactly. That includes brand, voltage, timings, speed, even lot number sometimes. That is why dual channel memory is always sold in MATCHING pairs. So if you are "adding" a 4GB stick, try to find one identical to the one you have now. Or as close as possible. That will help assure fewer memory errors.

Alright, but then again, I make use of AMD dedicated graphics for gaming (2GB VRAM). I wonder how'd that play out?
