Hello,

I just recently bought an EVGA GTX 970 FTW as an upgrade from my GTX 570. I'm running into an issue where the computer won't see the GTX 970. I've made sure it's in the x16 slot on the mobo (same spot as the 570) and the display won't recognize the card. If I go into device manager all I see is the integrated graphics. When I put the 570 back in, everything works just fine.

Computer specs:

Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K CPU @3.30GHz
Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3
2 x 8GB RAM
Windows 7 64-bit
OCZ 750W PSU

Anyone have an idea as to why the computer isn't finding the new GPU?

Solution

uninstall all gpu drivers before putting the new card in

update the bios to the newest version

all pcie power plugs on the gpu need to be plugged in

Thanks for the help.

I did a full uninstall of all related drivers using this guide: http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-2284749/completely-uninstall-amd-nvidia-gpu-drivers.html

The only update I see for my BIOS is a UEFI update which I'm not certain I want to do--do you think I still need to update this? http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3978#bios I have the F10 version.

The 2 6-pin power chords are definitely connected. The GPU fans turn on when the system boots, but the display never turns on and the GPU doesn't show up under display devices.

After the full driver uninstall, I tried the card again and it still didn't work.
