multiple gpus with multiple monitors

I'm thinking of getting multiple monitors along with 2-3 ways sli 960 2gb. Im wondering if 1 individual GPU will run one individual monitor with Direct x 12 so if I had 2 gpu's in sli with dual monitors I would get a similar performance to 1 GPU with 1 monitor.

I am new to this and I just want to get multiple montors for my sim racing setup and I want to know if getting another gpu would be worth it

There really is no point in SLI GTX 960. It's much better to buy one GTX 970 and use that for 2-3 monitors as you will have no problems running multiple monitors with even one GTX 960.

The thing Is I already only got a 960 a few months ago and I heard the direct x 12 has a lot of opportunity for sli (eg 1 gpu runs half the screen) so if i had two gpu's (on direct x 12) would they run 1 screen each if I had dual monitors?

That depends on the game and how it will handle it. We don't know if that's even going to happen. For now I'd say stay with one GTX 960.
