Will 3.0 PCI-e Graphic Card work on a 1.0 PCI-e Slot?

I have I have recently purchased a Gigabyte R9 280X and I would like to know if it will work with my motherboard

It'll work, are newer PCI-E cards are backwards compatible, but it wont get its full bandwidth.

Correct me if im wrong but i think you have a PCIE 2 slot.

Take a look at in enlarged photo shot of the motherboard and there is printed PCIE2 on the motherboard above the slot.

Edit; above the slot i mean the picture orientation as is haha but left of the slot having the motherboard up right.
