I bought a GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L board awhile back (used) and just installed it, it came with Intel Core2 Quad 2.4Ghz and 2 used 1gb sticks of ram. i installed 1 new stick of 1 gb and 1 used stick from an old mobo (which had no problems) so heres the issue.

My first boot pc loaded bios screen and shut off

Second boot the pc got stuck on inital bios screen keyboard flashed num lock scroll lock and caps lock pc beeped and then froze on that screen, wouldn't let me enter settings so turned it off and took 1 stick of ram out

Third boot pc is froze on bios for a minute and finally begins to load so great a bad stick right, but then shuts off no warning, maybe take another stick out? okay..

Fourth boot pc gets to which mode would i like to boot into (safe/normal) just hit normal boot pc shuts down.. okay fine third stick out for whatever reason?

Fifth boot pc asks which mode to boot i try normal again gets to login screen type in password it begins to load windows and boom cashed again...

unplug power and start to wiggle parts/wires see if anything is loose cpu fan wiggles, theres 4 prongs 2 are set correctly top 2 are loose 1 is broken and the other i set it correctly, its pretty stable so i also decide to reset bios (remove mobo battery) so lets see what happens.

sixth boot pc turns off before bios screen (black screen before bios that says model of gpu)

seventh boot gets to which mode I chose safe mode get to login screen, loading windows crash

eighth boot gets to mode i chose safe with cmd prmt loads all the way.... so maybe try normal again sure

ninth boot just bios frozen

tenth boot pc boots normal mode login works and steam even loads and asks me to login i just stare at it knowing its about to crash and sure enough 2 seconds later...

so what the heck.. think maybe processor fan might not have any thermal paste or maybe they've been seperated in the past and not put back on with paste? i dont really know what to think but i dont want my uneducated guess affect anyones answers. I know a little about pcs from back in middle school and high school when i was heavy in video games but only know about the average a gamer would (whats what, how to switch parts etc etc)

I pulled cpu fan off, there is thermal paste on the cpu and fan although they came apart with ease. Is the thermal paste like a glue? if so definitely needs more. Do i need to clean off old paste first? what would be best way to get the old paste off before i add new paste?
