CPU compatible with 64 bits, but can't install Windows 7 64 bits.

Hi guys, its my first time in the forum so please help me out!

I recently decided to change my Windows version from Win7 32 bits to Win7 64 bits, but it doesn't seem to work out.

Motherboard: MSI B85M Gaming (MS-7823)
CPU: Intel i3-4170
System Memory: Kingston HyperX 8Gbs
Power Supply: 450W

I am really sure that all those above are 64 bits compatible but every time I try I get rejected. I have tried to boot the CD through BIOS but no luck. After all those I checked my system info and it tells me that my computer is x86!? How is that possible? Is it because I didn't install the full driver for my motherboard? I really want to get that extra 4gbs I paid for, out of the system, someone please help me, thanks!!!

what error message does it show when you boot the CD??
maybe you installer media was broken (data corrupt or something else)

Did you format the hdd if you have the 64 bit dvd?? You cant upgrade from 32 bit to 64 bit

The error message says " The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32 bit) or x64 (64 bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher." this is when I tried booting the CD through Win7 32 bit. And I didn't format the HDD, please tell me how that is done that can help me a lot, thanks.

did you open the setup.exe from Windows 7 32bit??
if you did, of course it say that error message
you have to boot it from BIOS, not open setup.exe from windows 7 32-bit

Put the dvd in change the bootdisk in the BIOS to the dvd. Boot from the DVD

You'll have to format it to install 64 bit. So if you want anything off it do it before you format. You'll have to reinstall programs after

I will try that but I think Windows is thinking that my computer itself is x86 and cannot install the 64 bit version, that's why on the system info page it is saying x86. Is it because I didn't install everything on my motherboard driver,? Or is it because there is a defect in one of the parts?

Well if it doesnt install 64 bit if you boot from the dvd, then you'll have to stay with 32 bit
