Hi.

I was wondering which of the cards listed above is better for gaming whilst streaming, video editing, photo editing, rendering and just watching cats on youtube.
I have watched a couple of videos where they say the r9 390 is better but in some other cases they go with the gtx 970. They said they picked the r9 because it was more "futureproof".

What do you guys think? Thank you in advance!

Solution
More efficient compute units. the 390 has a higher number of computational units, more ram, high bandwith. None of these will be stressed in most 1080P situations.

I hate using this word, but the 390 will be more "future proof" in the long run, but the 390 will cost u about 5-10$ (depending on PUS efficiency and you overall household power usage) extra to run a year just for electricity bills :p

For 1080P Gaming i would recommend the GTX 970, after overclocked the GTX 970 will give a more stable and higher fps in more games than the R9 390. Also you will need to purchase a higher wattage PSU for the R9 390 and it's high heat output makes it even more undesirable.

If you are not going to overclock the R9 390 is not a bad choice either and if specificly play games like GTA V that utilizes a lot of VRAM in 1080P the R9 390 is a solid option.

The PSU I am going to buy with this is the evga supernova g1 750w gold certified. I am going to be playing a lot of gta v,lol,cs go and many other games. I will try to overclock when I actually know how to do it and not damage the card.

Then the R9 390 and the GTX 970 are equally great options. If you have a 1440P Monitor i would go for the R9 390. 1080P i would go for the GTX 970.

Why do you say that?

The R9 390 does marginally better in 1440P.

When both of them are overclocked the GTX 970 will usually do better in 1080P.

How does the r9 390 compare to the "fastest" gtx 970 (according to teksyndicate) in performance?
