I'm off to uni next month and am looking for a new computer/laptop to go with.

I've been struggling with my 3 year old Celeron, Dual Core, 1.5GB RAM laptop for a while now but it's so slow its unusable.

I'll just be doing uni work/streaming tv and videos mostly, but I do enjoy the odd game of Minecraft, but it's been horrible lately so I want to make sure I'm getting a good enough laptop to cope with it.
I've had a look into the different processors and stuff, but there's so many categories and so many different variations of these categories I'm completely boggled.
Also, what about cores? I always assumed the more cores the better, but some of the comparrisons I did on cpuboss.com pointed to dual cores being better than quad cores!

I think I'd be best with a Core i3, but would I get away with a Pentium? They're a lot cheaper so if I could get away with one of them I'd be laughing!

I don't have that much money, so am hoping to spend <£300 on it and don't mind it being a laptop or a tower to be honest cause I already have a pretty decent monitor and mouse/keyboard....

Here's a few that I've been looking at, but if you can think of any better/cheaper machines I'd really appreciate it!

1. Lenovo G50-70 (£249.99)
- Core i3-40050U
- 4GB RAM

2. ASUS F55LA (£279.97)
- Core i3-4030U
- 4GB RAM

3. Asus K5130 (£239.99)
- Core i3 3220T
- 6GB RAM

Again, if you think a Pentium would get me by without driving me crazy with laggy minecraft, or can think of a better value machine, I'd bevery grateful!

Thanks!

UPDATE:
If a Pentium is OK, I've found one for £229 - If it can handle Minecraft I could afford to buy it tomorrow!

Lenovo H30: Intel Pentium J2900 Quad Core 2.41GHz, 4GB RAM

First the links don't actually work. The pentium should be good for minecraft if you play the game at the min settings. It is not a very demanding game. But you will be limited in the amount of multi tasking you will be able to do. Plus I don't know how good they are at streaming videos as the higher the res you go, the more powerful igpu you will need.

I would try and look for some amd apu's as they tend to have better igpu than intel which is more important for gaming but at the expense of waste heat.

Hey, sorry I don't know why the links don't work they were just copy and pasted..

I was looking into some AMD based laptops, but found the different chips even more confusing than the intel ones! Is there a specific laptop you had in mind (ideally less than £350?)

What about this A8-6410 laptop?

It's quad core, 8GB RAM, so double the other laptops and it's quad core, which is double the i3 ones

Thanks
