Have a number of OptiPlex 755 Dells which say they can take up to 16GB of RAM, A 4GB stick goes for over $135.00 or more. AMD only RAM (4GB) goes for $25.00 per stick or less. IT company says they are not aware of any reason it won't work, but it is not being recognized by my computer.
How about a direct answer. Will AMD only RAM (DDR2 PC2-6400, 4gb) work in a Optiplex 755?

The Tech specs here show max of 8GB for the 755, in a 4x2GB config, as in it doesn't support 4GB sticks

People reported that 4GB ram (1x4GB) works with optiplex 755.

But, I am not sure about the "AMD only" part. If you dare to try it, please let me know the result. I am planning to upgrade my Opti755 too. The "AMD only" ram is very attractive in price.

AMd only ram are most likely incompatible since they have memory densities(that is,number of chips on the stick) that were at the time unsupported by intel chipsets/cpus.
I would go to Crucial.com to check memory capacity. Dell is often wrong, They only list memory modules they tested back in the day and don't always update their specs. as bigger modules come out. They showed 4 GB @667 for mine and 8GB @800 works just fine.
