Ok this threads question might be a bit confusing. So I have been trying to make a gaming pc and one of my components is an 8GB g.skill ripjaws x series 1866MHz but the thing is it says the component is a memory card. And I looked up the difference between a ram card and memory and it said that they were different and that ram is temporary memory while the other is permanent. And the thing is since im building a gaming pc people prefer using ram so I was just wondering if the g.skill ripjaws is a ram or a memory card. Or if there's just no difference between them and I am just really confused. And by memory I don't mean storage card.

Who or what says . . "it says the component is a memory card" ?

G.Skill Ripjaws X memory is definitely RAM (Random Access Memory). It stores data temporarily as long as voltage is supplied to it. As soon as voltage is removed, the RAM data is erased automatically. RAM's are inserted in dedicated memory/RAM slots within motherboards.

A memory card stores data (almost) permanently, even after voltage has been removed from the card. Memory cards are usually plugged into USB slots/ports and other slots designed for these cards, but they do not plug into standard memory/RAM slots on motherboards.

The GSkill product is called a DIMM (Direct Inline Memory Module - but people call them something else in slang terms and often even see it in advertising, I call the DIMMs sticks, others call them Cards, Blocks, Bricks and other things....another that can mess with people are the little USB Flash Drives, many call them memory sticks or thumb drives. Many of the slang terms are often somewhat regional
