Do you need more than Windows default tools to check/repair a hard drive?

I sometimes wonder about techs using tools such as Seatools, HDD regenerator etc to diagnose/repair hard drives. Do any of these tools beat Chkdsk in any way?

(besides data recovery tools, I guess those have no match in Windows).

Thank you

i know seatools tests other aspects other than just for bad sectors, like the hdd controller and hdd electronics. I always use the manufacturers diag tool for my hdd's. HDD Regenerator actually attempts to repair the bad sectors (although i find they go bad again a short while after so best to replace drive after data is recovered), where chkdsk just marks the bad sectors not to be used.
