Title pretty much sums up the question. Is there any conflict in using two different versions of the GTX 970 card. I already have the MSI 970 in my rig... I have the opportunity of picking up an EVGA Superclocked version for cheap, but before I do, I just want to make sure that they will SLI properly.

If not, would just a standard vanilla GTX 970 work instead?

Solution
brand and cooler model doesnt matter as long as it is the same chipset. you'll be fine. just note the system will down clock both cards to the slowest card.

Helpful, thank you. Just one thing so I'm absolutely clear... the down clocking to lowest speed, means the Core Clock speed... correct?

Brand's make hardly any performance difference. The difference is around 1% ~ 5% and it is not noticeable after the GPU's are overclocked.

If you have a case with good air flow, full tower recommended, you should be fine with MSI Gaming or EVGA SC+

However if you have a mid tower case or smaller the blower style design is much more favorable.

i was referring to core clock.

i read somewhere that the clocks can adjust independently since the 600 series cards. i am not sure how true it is. couldnt find a solid reference.

heres a good read.
