PS2 legacy ports on new mobo. Im confused

I thought that PS2 keyboards and mice were/are legacy products. However, whilst shopping around for a new Z97 mobo, I see some/most still come with either one or two PS2 ports.

Is this just to cater for the millions of old PS2 keyboards and mice, or is PS2 still a current interface ?
Please educate me.

Another thing between usb and ps2 keyboards. USB can only register 6 keys at a time while ps2 will register any number of keys pressed at the same time. So if you want to do that awesome flying jump barrel roll backflip karate chop ninja stealth move that needs 12 keys pressed down at the same time, well your going to need a ps2 keyboard as a usb will only see 6 keys pressed at one time.

PS2 is still used by many people for keyboard or mouse in many parts of the world. There is no replacement for them since these devices could not be used with any other port. USB devices have USB ports to be used and USB adapters or splutters could be used to compensate any deficiency. But legacy devices have to be there in mobo since these devices do not have any efficient interface to replace the onboard ones.

So manufacturers are still sticking with the legacy ports.

Well. PS2 needs a system restart to be identified by the bios after it is removed and plugged in. There is no alternative for that. USB keyboards are good. But they are still in USB2 stage. Until full USB3 support is there for keyboards, they will be a little slow in response than the legacy device. But then again, technology moves forward. Not backward.
