If you look at the user's manual -- http://www.supermicro.com/manuals/motherboard/D/MNL-1726.pdf and search for JP1, they allow the use of the 4 pin "CPU" power plug in lieu of the full 24 pin ATX plug. See section 1-6 for power supply info ...
Thanks for the right direction. The relevant statements are:
Note 1: The X10SDV series motherboard alternatively supports a 4-pin
12V DC input power supply for embedded applications. The 12V DC
input is limited to 18A by design. It provides up to 216W power input to
the motherboard. Please keep onboard power use within the power limits
specified above. Over-current DC power use may cause damage to the
motherboard!
Note 2: Do not use the 4-pin DC power at PJ1 when the 24-pin ATX Power
at JPW1 is connected to the power supply. Do not plug in both PJ1 and
JPW1 at the same time.

Connector: MOLEX 39-01-2040 or equivalent
Contact: Molex 44476-1112 (HCS) or equivalent
(Mating motherboard connector is Molex 39-29-9042 or equivalent)
Pin Signal 18 AWG Wire
1 COM Black
2 COM Black
3 +12V2DC Yellow /Black Stripe
4 +12V2DC Yellow/ Black Stripe
Table 3.5.2 of the same document states 12V2DC should be 12V +/- 5%; but lists it as an output. I'm going with that.
