I recently built a budget pc but its running games i would like to play fairly slow, i want to upgrade it enought to play games like ARK, Skyrim and others like that.
Specs-
AMD A10 7850k 3.7 processor
4x2 ddr3 1600 ram
500w EVGA power supply
1 TB hard drive
ASROCK FM2A58M-VG3+ R2.0 motherboard
also a side note when i look at my installed RAM on my system info it says 8GB ram (1.98 usable)
im wondering if i should get a new Gpu i was thinking about a Radeon R7 260X or if i should get 16GB of ram

Solution
8 gb of ram is more than enough for gaming .

i would recommend buying R9 270 or R9 270x (which ever fits your budget ) over R7 260x .
If you are tight on budget then go for R7 260x .

Is the 270x worth the extra 80$? will it give me a boost in performance worth it over the 260x?
BTW thanks for the quick response

If R9 270x fits your budget , its worth every penny . you can play game at 1080p , with medium to high settings .

Are you by any chance using a 32 bit version of Windows? If so you really need to be using a 64 bit operating system to "unlock" the whole 8GB as 32bit will only utilise 2.5GB in total (or around that amount). This alone will make a decent performance increase (I know this from personal experience as I also play early access / modded games and I noticed a big improvement when playing Arma 2 and 3 mods).

As for running Ark ... don't get your hopes up, that game still gives 10fps in certain situations even on top of the line rigs which top Youtubers spend thousands on; until it's better optimised you won't be running that game perfectly.

Finally, although 8GB is plenty to run fully optimised games that have been finished, when delving into the world of early access games the more RAM you can provide really does make a difference, I would recommend 16GB if your budget can stretch to this. And for the people who don't believe in this as I once didn't you only need to look at the gameplay footage coming from rigs with this amount installed to be convinced. Granted it doesn't all come down to RAM, but early access games really do require more power than normal to run them at an even remotely stable condition.

Plus, if you yourself ever decide you want to create Youtube videos or edit gameplay footage, believe me when I say that extra RAM will make all the difference when using Sony Vegas Pro or whatever other video editing software you want to use... trust me lol.

Only go for 16 gb ram if you are streaming live videos , video editing and stuffs like that .
If you plan on playing only single & multi player games and etc , 8 gb is enough ....
