can this pc run all games on max settings

You could do that with just one 970 in most games. If you're just running 1080p for now, I would just use one 970 and sell it and get a Pascal when they come out next year (or when you get a higher res panel). Pascal will have HBM2.

And for those that assume 970 SLI sucks for higher res compared to the bigger VRAM cards, well, look at this.

That said, there are a few games that VRAM cap at 3.5GB, and make the 970 stutter, like Shadow of Mordor. Mostly it's only poorly coded games that do that.

What do you have to play on now?

Reason I ask, is it's not the best time to build. You'll get best bang for buck gaming wise if you wait for Skylake and build an 1151 platform rig based on the Z170 chipset, the new more affordable dual channel version of DDR4 RAM that will be available then, and a Skylake CPU.

Or, if you want to use this for both gaming and work or heavy tasking like video encoding, you could spend a lot on X99 platform. I don't feel it makes much sense to blow $300 on an 1150 MB just for gaming though.

Just saying that's a lot to spend on a whole new rig, with Skylake coming so soon, and the much better Pascal GPUs next year. Maybe just get a 290x o r 970 for now, then sell it and build your rig next year.

What is your current rig spec?
