(Sorry if i posted this in the wrong forum.)

Hi i just got a new mobo and cpu for my rig but i used my old HDD, so when i launch the computer it gets a blue screen and startup repair runs and it loops finishes launch's and then crash's again. I looked up the problem and it seems i need to reinstall windows but Do i need to reinstall or can i repair windows. I don't have the windows disk because my computer was a oem version and was pre-installed so i need to go buy another copy but is there a way i can install windows without losing all of my data( computer files i have a lot of mods and photos). I'm using windows 7 and I need some help

Have you tried booting into safe mode? If you can you can make backups of all your data. Or put the drive back in your old rig and make sure windows is completely up to date, make backups, and then try it in the new combo (my first choice) - or get an OS disk of the same OS you are running and try a repair

Couple more things, Is there a difference between getting a student edition of windows over a regular version of windows

Also if i get the windows disk do i just put it in the hit the repair option

Also if i buy a oem version of windows install it, if i lets say upgrade my computer again(change my motherboard) can i use the same windows 7 disk to reinstall/repair
