Using SSD to its best advantage

With small ssd's becoming so cheap many would like to transfer the windows OS to the ssd and use the hdd for normal data. This site contains many answers on how to achieve this but I have been unable to find a 100% definitive answer which works every time. Can someone point me to the correct way to achieve this so that the ssd does not fill with unwanted data. Thank you. TM

Thank you for the response. I probably did not ask the correct question. What I want is the ssd with JUST the OS installed. If I install another program I want the installation to pointed to my hdd. I've tried changing the drive letter when installing a new program but I have ended up with a Program Files(X86) on both the ssd and the hdd with the new program showing on both. (Confused!!)

Well that is going to happen, the program is installing on your HDD however sometimes it will put files on your SDD that it needs for reference, because thats where the OS is. Did you determine for sure its double installing? it should not be,.

Hi - yes I have checked that the files are being duplicated on my C Drive (ssd) and my E Drive (hdd). I'll keep trying new suggestions and hopefully someone will come up with a solution. Thank you for your response. TM

OK then you have a setup problem, can you go into the drive setup in windows and see if the drives are set up as mirrored? That should not happen.

Hi - I've checked and my drives are not 'mirrored'. I don't think I can mirror drives using Windows 7 Home Premium. Thnaks for your help but I think there is no obvious solution. TM
