I am looking into getting new phone system to my office. I am wondering what is the benefit for Gigabit IP phone assuming cabling and port on switch is not an issue.

**every cube has gigabit POE switch next or near them**

Yeah if you are going to be putting the inbetween the wall and a computer

Wall jack-->phone-->PC

You will get a benefit for the computer. I phones don't take up much bandwidth but you have to make sure the voice traffic has priority (and best case scenario, put the traffic on a separate VLAN) otherwise if you do a network file transfer and try to talk to someone it will be crap quality
IP phones don't need gigabit, plus that's within your building, once out the Internet u don't get gigabit anymore.

IP phones have advantage over POTS (Plain old Telephone) they give you more features such as detailed tracking of your calls, full featured voice mails, even random access voicemails (quickly pick what you want to listen to), possibly video capability etc.

Thanks for the reply

Right now I have options between 10/100 IP phone and 10/100/1000 IP phone. We have a team that is on the call all the time so call quality is a must have. I want to know if getting gigabit phone will improve voice quality. I know it will help if we connect a desktop to the other end.
