Will 16gb of ram be good for gaming?

If I was building now, I would get a 16 gig kit. While 8 is enough right now, I believe for future proofing you should go ahead and get 16.

Since ram isn't that expensive right now you should get 16 gb of higher frequency ram.

current games are starting to reach the 8gb limit, so 16gb should be good for games, serval years into the future.

If you are only going to game 8 GB of ram is all you will need. The extra 8 GB wont be used at this point. With 16 GB of ram the most I have used gaming is a little over 5 GB for OS, Game and browser at the same time.
In the future it may become necessary but in hind sight I should have waited to get DDR4 memory before upping to 16 GB. This is because by the time games will need 8 or more GB for gaming I will be building a new Gaming Rig.
Now this is only my opinion and experience Others may have different thoughts on this BUT for now no game will use 8 GB.

I agree with smorizio, 8gb is more than enough for any game you want to play.
16gb is a bit overkill...
But in the computing world, yesterday's overkill is today's standard.
(But I wouldn't get more than 8 if I was you.)

right now the i5 is fine for gaming and early directX 12 test, show that you in the future might need even less cpu power for games. But it is hard to say until real directX 12 games start to show.
