I have been doing research and am trying to do a solid Gaming PC build for my two boys.

The two combos I'm considering are:

AMD Athlon X4 860K Quad-Core 3.7GHz Socket FM2+ 95W AD860KXBJABOX Desktop Processor (BLACK EDITION) – Cost: $74.99

and

ASRock FM2A88M PRO3+ Socket FM2+ 95W / FM2 100W AMD A88X (Bolton D4) 8 x SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard – Cost: $56.99

-OR-

AMD FD6300WMHKBOX FX-6300 6-Core 5GHz Processor Black Edition – Cost: $99.99

and

ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3 AM3+ AMD 760G + SB710 USB 3.0 HDMI uATX AMD Motherboard – Cost: $52.00

I am using a separate 2 GB GPU in both builds, but I am interested in potentially overclocking these setups and wonder if one is any better than the other for that...?

Thanks!

I would recommend going with FX-6300 , and a r9 270x graphic card for gaming high end games at 1080p on medium to high settings .
Over clocking a cpu does not make a much of difference in game , its the gpu that matters .

Besides over clocking cpu and gpu may give topmost 10 fps difference in gaming , and it will decrease the life span of your product .
