My parents are having a problem with there laptop, windows wasnt booting.
i made a recovery disc using my desktop, that did loading files then just a black screen after a minute or so there was just a white cursor.

after doing some more research on the matter i decided to get memtest x86+ (** Memtest86+ V5.01 (27/09/2013)** ----- Auto-installer for USB Key (Win 9x/2k/xp/7) *NEW!*) i tried this straight after the recovery disc,as soon as i booted this the cpu temp rocketed to 90c..

i let the cpu cool for a while and it was at 74 within 30 seconds the cpu was reading 84/85 then after another 30 - 40 seconds the laptop shuts off again.

so im not even getting time to test any ram. and i cant seem to shut off the cpu test but also if i leave laptop for 5 to cool then sit it on the bios it still seems to overheat but the bios has no temp moniter

any idea's any1

Solution
If the laptop is a few months/years old, its heatsink may have gotten clogged by dust - my sister had an overheating laptop and when I opened it up to clean it, the heatsink was packed solid.

I have to agree, do it or pay someone to. As mentioned, a clogged with dust or bad fan I would say 98% chance its the problem.
