STILL No Network Adapter Found

Backstory:

My computer has been working fine since I built it using all the parts below, about 6 months ago. When I rebooted my system the other day, I no longer had a visual display.

This may or may not be related... but around the same time, my email was hacked, and so was my bank account. I've since reset all my passwords and recovered my funds from my bank. Is it possible a virus or something is causing my network adapter to "hide", which also prevents me from connecting online to check for updates?

The Problems:

1.) Booting with my newer video card in place results in no display (no post, no windows loading screen) but I can still hear the computer booting up. Cannot get into BIOs, Safe Mode, etc.

2.) When I boot using an old video card, my display comes back, but after booting to windows, it tells me there is no network adapter detected and I have no internet connection. The whole 'Network' category is also not shown in Device Manager at all.

How I've attempted to fix the problem:

- reset CMOS on motherboard by removing battery and power supply for hours before rebooting
- used a USB stick to resinstall all drivers from the website of mobo manufacturer and video card
- reinstalled a brand new copy of Windows 7
- installed older versions of the RealTek LAN driver
- verified that the Network settings in the BIOS are enabled

No luck. Still no display (with newer card) or Network Adapter.

My Specs:

- Windows 7
- Motherboard 1 x GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990FX + SB950 6 x SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD (no on-board video)
- Power Supply 1 x COUGAR DX600 600W ATX SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Haswell ready
- RAM 2 x CORSAIR Vengeance 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMZ4GX3M1A1600C9B
- Processor 1 x AMD FX-8350 Black Edition Vishera 8-Core 4.0GHz (4.2GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W FD8350FRHKBOX
- Video Card SAPPHIRE DUAL-X 100365L Radeon R9 270 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Video Card With BOOST & OC

To summarize, my new video card does not output a display and windows cannot detect a Network Adapter. I'm going on Day 3 now of not being able to fully use my system. I've done a ton of research online and nothing has helped.

Any help is appreciated!

Still having trouble, and here's another piece of info...

I used my laptop to download and copy my motherboard's LAN drivers onto a USB stick. I then went to the PC that has the missing network adapter and went to add the drivers. For Network Adapters, I clicked 'Have Disk' and selected the appropriate Windows 7 64-bit driver from the USB stick, and clicked "OK". This brought me back to the list of selectable network adapters, which remains empty. So I specified the driver to install, and it is still saying there are no network adapters available.

I'm getting incredibly frustrated and can't help but feel like this is virus-related, since all of my hardware was working fine before the day I rebooted, and I cannot install a new network adapter. Has anyone heard of a virus doing this much damage? I cannot even install my antivirus without an internet connection and am running out of ideas :(

Hello KrizmKazm. Ok so you have problem with your Network Adapter, and you tried some things that did not work: reinstalled a brand new copy of Windows 7, reinstall all drivers from the website of mobo manufacturer and video card.

Did you check: Windows Update? Go there and click search for updates, check in optional updates if you have some update to your Network Adapter.

Other question about your Network Adapter: Is it integrate in your motherboard or external in a PCI port?

I cannot get to Windows Update if I do not have a network adapter. Is it possible to search Windows Update on my laptop for the missing network adapter on my PC, eventhough it's a completely different system? Also, doesn't Windows Update install the items directly to your system, rather than prompting you to save the installation files to a USB before executing?

My network adapter is integrated onto the motherboard. Here's a better shot of my motherboard:

Thank you for your answer KrizmKazm :)

I cannot get to Windows Update if I do not have a network adapter.

Ohhh yes, it's true sorry.

Is it possible to search Windows Update on my laptop for the missing network adapter on my PC, eventhough it's a completely different system?

Sorry you can not do that. If you use Windows Update with your laptop, it will search updates to your laptop not your desktop computer.

About your motherboard, I saw the link, check on your motherboard the revision (it's in the corner) here you have an example: http://i57.tinypic.com/2mcspd5.png

After that go to GIGABYTE Support, here: http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/download-center.aspx

There in Choose Product like this: Motherboard -> Socket AM3+ -> AMD 990FX -> GA-990FXA-UD3 -> Click "Search"

You will select your Motherboard (with the revision that appear on your motherboard). After that Choose your OS and finally Download LAN driver that will appear.

IMPORTANTE: Before to install the LAN driver go to: Device Manager and make sure that in "Network Adapters" you don't have a LAN driver installed, if you have right click and Uninstall. After that you can try to install the LAN driver that you downloaded.

I hope it works ;)

So THAT'S what the revision number means. I've downloaded the drivers from that page before, but I was assuming I just needed the "latest" revision. I will take another look when I get home and verify I tried installing the correct Revision.

Per your question regarding Device Manager, the entire 'Network Adapters' category in Device Manager is missing.

Thanks for the help, I'll let you know what I find out.

I confirmed my motherboard is "Revision 4.0" and went to the site you linked to grab the drivers.

I downloaded and installed (for Windows 7 64-bit):
- BIOS (F2)
- AMD Chipset Driver (include chipset \ sata raid driver) (v 13.125)
- Realtek LAN Driver (v 7.088.0617.2014 )

However, my problem remains.
After installing the LAN driver, I got the error message "The realtek Network Controller was not found. If deep sleep mode is enabled Please plug the cable." There is still no section for Network Adapters within Device Manager.

If I have to buy something else to get my internet working (aside of buying this same mobo for a 3rd time in 1 year), I am open to ideas!

Try to do this trick KrizmKazm. I had one day some problem with the LAN and a teacher said to me something like this: disconnect your power supply cable, this: http://img.dxcdn.com/productimages/sku_39925_2.jpg . Then press the power button 1 minute approximatelly. After that connect your power supply cable and turn on your computer, check if you have in: Device Manager -> Network Adapters your LAN drive.

That procedure releases static electricity from your computer.

NOTE: My LAN automatically was repaired after that procedure.

Thanks, but I've already tried this many times. I removed the CMOS and Power Supply for about 2 hours the other day too, still no change.

I noticed the 'Network Adapters' section is showing up after I clicked 'View > Show Hidden Devices' in Device Manager. There are 6 different types of "WAN Miniport" listed (PPTP, PPOE, etc). All of them say they are up to date. I can disable them, but not uninstall them. There's nothing about Ethernet or Realtek listed there though.

:(

Yes, I think so. It's the fast way to solve the problem but first I would ask to some family member or friend if it has a Network Adapter to check if it works on your computer, after that if it works well I would buy the Network Adapter that you say in the link.

In the meanwhile you can do some things to try to fix your integrate Network Adapter:

I got the error message "The realtek Network Controller was not found. If deep sleep mode is enabled Please plug the cable."

-Go to BIOS and check if you have LAN enabled.

-Can you take a screenshot of your Device Manager? And other in control pannel -> Network and Internet -> Network and Sharing Center -> Change adapter settings. Here like the mine: http://postimg.org/image/m2re2l783/ . And check if you have Ethernet.

This network card was pretty cheap, so I just ordered it in hopes of minimizing my down time. Should be here in a couple days.

When I go into BIOS, the only thing I see relating to LAN is "Onboard LAN controller", which is ENABLED.

(sorry, until I reinstall PS, I'm not sure the best way to screenshot)

While we never found the cause, or solution, to the original problem - buying that $30 network card allowed me to get back online.

Thanks for all your time and help principiantehardware!
