Can't create System Image on HD(Windows 7)

Before I upgrade to WIndows 10 I wan't to create a system image in case something goes wrong and also to back up some files. I have two separate drives, one is an SSD for the OS/Drivers and one is a mechanical hard drive for storage. I'm trying to create a System Image to the mechanical hd but the system image program from Windows doesn't detect it. I know the hd is working because I wouldn't be able to play games since that's where they're stored. I have also noticed that in the notifications taskbar there is a "safely eject hardware/media" and my hd is listed there. I tried disabling the hot swap option or whatever it's called in the bios and inside Windows but can't seem to get rid of it. Is it not letting me because of that?

Specs:
MB: Asrock z77 extreme 4
CPU: I5 2500k
GPU: Asus GTX 670
SSD: Intel 320
HD: Seagate

How are you trying to make the image? What software are you using?
I upgraded my son's computer from windows 7 to windows 10 this weekend, and he was all worried about his Minecraft stuff not working on Windows 10, so I used AOMEI Backupper Standard link to follow to perform the backup to Image file just incase. It is pretty quick, and worked like a charm for me.

Don't. It sucks, is very limited in how / what you can do. The one I mentioned above is free, and it works like a charm. If you don't like the looks of it or whatever do a search for free windows backup solutions. Acronis True Image 2015 is a good one. There are many others, but I'm just going from personal experience.
