I bought a new video card at Microcenter, a Gigabyte GV-N370-2GI today, which the salesman told me would work, and brought it home to install. I can't figure out how to hook it up to my power supply! My old video card hooked up via a six-pin connection. The new card doesn't have anywhere to plug power into that I can see. Am I blind or did I get the wrong card?

My motherboard is a BIOSTAR Group TP43D2-A7 (CPU 1). My old graphics card is a NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT that connected to the power supply via a six pin connection. I have hooked it back up again and it is working fine. My operating system is Windows 7 Professional N 32-bit SP1. My monitor is a SyncMaster 953BW. My power supply is a Antec TruePower Trio 550W 2.0 ATX 12V v2.0 power supply with a 120mm fan.

Help!

is the Fan on the Video card spining? if yes. try update your Nvidia driver to the new one , and restart it , it should work, and if fan not working maybe you didn't install it properly or maybe it is not working.... check on those and i hope everything fine..

I did not notice if the fan in the new video card was working when I installed it because I got no signal at all to the monitor. Prior to install the new video card, I removed all of the drivers & software for the old one and pulled the old one. I put it back into my system when the new one didn't work & it now works fine.

My motherboard uses PCI Express 2.0 and the new card is PCIe3 but it is supposed to be backward compatible. The salesman who sold me the card said that there was a small chance that it might not work due to the PCIe type issue. Not sure why that would be. I just want to upgrade because, after installing a clean install of Windows 7 from Windows XP, the display is blurry and I figured my card was old and an upgrade might help.

you might need to update to the newest bios for your motherboard first

but those 2 cards are basically very close in performance, return the 730

i suggest making another post with your win7 issue, i am sure people can help you make win7 run with your old card as many people do

So you're suggesting a create a new post asking what? My system does run with the old card, but it runs at a native resolution that makes everything way to small & blurry. Changing the resolution makes the display area smaller on my screen and I can't figure out a way to make it fit the entire display area.

I hooked up the DVI cable but I didn't see much change. I'll try posting in the Windows 7 forum. Why can't I upgrade my video card? Would one with more memory on it work better in my PC?

you can upgrade, the 2 cards however are so close its more of a sidegrade

would be better to save a bit more for a actual worthy upgrade to your old card

you would want at least 2 tiers separating them to notice a difference:
