Hi I'm looking to upgrade my pc's gpu from a nvidia 760 to something like a 970 would with be possible/compatible with my specs.
CPU: Intel Core i5 4670K
CPU Overclocking: 4.1Ghz - Mild overclock
CPU Cooler: Zalman CNPS5X Performa
Operating System: Windows 8.1 (64-bit)
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z87-HD3
RAM: 8GB Corsair 1600mhz Vengeance (2x4GB)
Hard Drive: 1TB S-ATAIII 6.0Gb/s
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 2GB
PSU: 650W Corsair VS

Solution
I would recommend you get a GTX 970 or a 980.
Your motherboard carries the capabilities to use either the 980 or the 970 (whichever you choose). Unfortunately it doesn't support SLI so you won't be able to use your old card (if you had been planning on using that as a secondary GPU).
