Hi All,
Could I please ask for the opinion of the community here. I am running a single R9 280X running off a Antec EA500. I am currently using the adapters that came with the R9 (i.e. 6pin to 8pin molex (using the 2 x 6pinPSU only has 2 6pin) and the power pins (not sure the name but the old pins) to 6 pin molex as well.

I don't overclock or anything as I am content with playing high-ultra settings at 1080p, I have it install for a week now and finished Hitman Absolution at the time on ultra settings.

My question are:

1. can I continue to use this PSU or do I need to purchase a new one as it may damage the PC or GPU? If I purchase a PSU I'm thinking Cougar GX800 V3 800W 80+ Gold Modular Power Supply. I would rather not buy a new PSU as I intend to keep this PC only for a maximum of 1 or 2 years and may get rid of it earlier, hence I'm asking do I really need to purchase a new PSU.

2. If I upgrade and buy a MB with 2 PCI slots, are 2 x R9 280X cross action better than getting a single GTX960, 970 or 980?

Thank you heaps.

Comp Specs:
CPU: Intel Core i5 2500 - Sandy Bridge
MB: ASUSTeK Computer Inc P8H61-M LE
RAM: 8GB DD3

It is highly recommended for you to get a Tier 2 PSU atleast for gaming.

Check out the PSU requirements on the bottom right side of this reply.

Also if you cross fire two R9 280X your price : performance will be terrible.
You are much better off purchasing a GTX 980 Ti or R9 290X.
The R9 390X or Furys are simply not worth it.

You need a new PSU seriously. Its the most important part of the computer and most overlooked. but you don't have to spend much. i found a tier 2 750 watt PSU for $40. I have seen EVGA, XFX made by seasonic and other s if you get it at the right time. Mine was $110 and had a sale and gave me a $35 rebate card that had to be spent on newegg but hey I will use that. On this site

look up some PSU's given with the site from KKAW

adjust your wattage and price etc and see if you can find a temporary replacement. Actually I am getting ready to sell a 600 watt PSU bc I fell Into the same predicament you did lol.
