Hi I recently upgraded my gpu so I wanted to know how my overall rig is for gaming and I also haven't upgraded he cpu yet so I wanted to know how badly it would bottleneck the gpu.

Gpu: Asus r9 280x
Cpu: Intel core 2 quad q8300 2.5ghz
Ram: 8gb ddr2 399mhz

Your CPU and RAM will be main problem because it will bottleneck your other components. You definitely need to change those two. It seems like you will need to change the motherboard as well to accommodate stronger processors.

What are your other components? Storage? Mobo?

- Load your games on an SSD so it can grab resources very quickly.
- Your mobo can easily be the biggest bottleneck if the buses cannot transfer the data quick enough.

Also, core2quad is socket 775, and the only upgrade to that are the "extreme" chips. That GPU is pretty hefty and should be paired with an i5/7 & at least DDR3 RAM. It will certainly improve gaming performance as is though.

** EDIT :: There is an upgrade for your RAM (DDR2 1066F, PC2 8500, 533mhz), but the CAS is a bit higher so IMO, it's not going to do much unless you upgrade all your core components at once ( i5/7, ddr3/4, and supporting mobo).
