Reaching only 4.1ghz with i7 5820k and Corsair h100i gtx. Am I doing something wrong?

So I am trying to check the overclocking potential of the new CPU I just bought. I am setting the multiplier x45 and core voltage 1.27v. Then I am stress testing and it is reaching 78C-80C. After a couple of minutes it even tried to reach 85C.

I have mounted the cooler properly as I have taken out and put it back several times and made the screws tight.

So what am I doing wrong? My CPU looks stable only at 4.1ghz. I am not using XMP profile right now.

Thanks

Have you followed any overcloking guides? Their are features that need to be turned off in the bios to get a stable overclock mostly power saving stuff. You could also have just been unlucky in the silicon lottery not all 5820k's were created equal some will overclok high, some low, some not at all.

But 4.1ghz is too low don't you think? I mean people are reaching 4.4ghz using air coolers :(

And one core is basically contributing to this temp. One of my core is about 6C-8C hotter than the others.

I would say 4.1Ghz is really poor for this price. Basically it beats the main reason I bought this chip. I mean come on i7 4790k reaches 4.4Ghz. Damn :(

Well you are are a bit below the average overclock which i think is about 4.3ghz to 4.5ghz for that cpu. What motherboard and power supply do you have? I will try to find a good OC guide for your bios maybe their is a feature you are forgetting to turn off or on. You can try bumping up the voltage a bit, the max SAFE voltage is 1.300v due to "electromigration" im not really sure what that is but I have heard its bad and can shorten the life of the cpu if you decide to go past 1.3v.

Motherboard is Asus x99-a/usb 3.1 and power supply is EVGA supernova g2 750w. But wouldn't increasing the voltage make my CPU hotter?
