acer aspire no operating system found

I have tried f2 and f 12 but nothing just beeps and has no operating system found.
what can I try next?
I have gone to acer and they say send it to them for repair, surely this i ssomething simple

If you burned your recovery disks when you bought the PC, try inserting them now and booting off them. It might allow you to re-install Windows. If not, your HDD has likely failed, and you'll need to contact Acer for a replacement.

If you didn't burn the disks, you'll need to send it to acer.
