Hi everyone, I've been have slow boot times for a while now with my Samsung 840 EVO 250GB with a 1TB HDD for storage setup, i haven't really bothered to look into it for a while now but using windows performance analyzer its showing 100% cpu load. I was wondering if anyone could help me track down the big culprits and how to solve this.

Here's a screenshot of the cpu usage sorted by process, you can see the total over on the left side.

And here is the total usage by cpu

Hardware

  • GIGABYTE GA-970A-DS3
    Samsung 840 EVO 250 GB
    AMD FX-6300
Seagate something or other 1TB HDD

Open up the regular task manager (or a page in this program that shows it) and look at real time CPU usage for the programs. The regular task manager also has a startup page if you're running at least Windows 7 (maybe vista, don't remember) and although not very robust, it gives you a good idea of exactly what programs are causing performance issues on start up. You can remove programs you aren't using and you can set some others to a delayed start so that the CPU doesn't get hammered all at once.

The issue isnt after i make it to the desktop, its the time to boot after getting to the starting windows screen (i believe windows performance recorder includes this) after i get to the desktop it only takes a few seconds for all my startup stuff to open and be at a useable speed.

Hmm. Perhaps the task manager's startup page would still be of use, maybe not. I'm not sure if it would show software that is running before you reach the desktop.

Either way, we'd need to look at each process that is running, Google what it is if we don't already know, and then decide if it should be running or not. Can you give me another screen shot, but this time make the text area larger so we can read full names of the programs?
