Is the Crucial 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 CT2K8G4DFD8213 good RAM for games?

as long as it has enough capacity (which it does), and it looks nice enough (which is your call), it should be fine. you shouldn't be stresed about speeds and latencies, as they hardly make a difference.

just for my knowlage, since this is a dual channel kit and not a quad channel, are you getting a skylake cpu?

With this ram you're bottleneck in performance will probably not be this ram. However without knowing how you run your computer it can be hard to tell how much ram you need.

As long as you don't have a crap ton of applications or web browsers open you should be fine. I run 8gb of ddr3 2400 and never hit 80% ram usage in maxed out games. However I also don't have things running in the background when I play.

For the general user 16GB more than fine. If you're hitting 100% usage it doesn't matter the speed of ram your performance will drop substantially.

If you're like my friend xxxx who runs Photoshop while having 40+ tabs open you might need to bump it up.

Yes, I'm planning on getting the i7 6700k.

ok then. my recommendation still stands.

Notice how Tom's states that the much faster memory really didn't impact much, they were jsut testing it for the sake of testing it. A mere 6% to 7% gain in WinRAR, a program that is fairly sensitive to memory performance (mostly bandwidth), shows us that you don't need more than 2133MHz effective frequency in RAM for even the average gamer. It's for hardware enthusiasts and niche roles.

True, then the OP should stick with i7 4790k with DDR3 as it is cheaper, and for gaming it about the same if not better then 6770k

bro, ddr4 prices have dropped so much, that you can get a kit of 8GB of dual channel DDR4 goodness for around 60 bucks.

OP looking for 16GB. That also why I don't get it why not go for a faster one.

unlike DDR3, higher speed DDR4 has a much steeper price incline when going up in speed.
