I have wanted to build for a long time now. I am finally pulling the trigger. My budget is about 1000 including a cheap display. I could go a little higher if it made a big difference, but I'd rather not. I would like to be able to run any game out. Maxed out settings are not a big deal. High on most games, medium on the heavy ones is the minimum I am shooting for. My main questions are about my choice of motherboard and power supply as well as compatibility issues in general. I would greatly appreciate any advice.

I appreciate the help. I researched some of the changes suggested. The way I take it, the main idea is dropping down to a cheaper processor that will be nearly as good in order to get a much better video card. It seems like good advice to me. I am definitely leaning in that direction now.

Choosing a specific power supply appears to give more disparate answers than anything else. Outside of knowing what amount of power you need it to be rated for, it seems that every thing I read on that matter is different. PCPartPicker estimates the power drawn by this system would max out around 342W, so a 550 seems like it would be enough even if I upgraded in the future. I suppose giving it a bit more would ensure it was not pushed as hard and prolong/improve its performance?

I did want to ask about the case I chose. Most of what I have read suggested that full towers are sort of overkill (besides making it easier to work in there while you are putting everything together) unless you are planning on running dual video cards. Photos and videos of builds seems to back that up (tons of empty space generally). I chose a midsized case in my build above. Does anything think I should worry about space being too tight?

Case size is not THAT important as long as the video card you want fits, and the aftermarket cpu cooler(if needing one) fits. I actually prefer microATX cases, but regular mid-towers like the one you chose are the most popular size. Choosing a case is most personal choice for a builder. You are the one who has to look at it. I recommend browsing through cases at amazon, newegg, tigerdirect, etc and finding one you like. partpicker can help you figure out if your parts are compatible with it, or you can just get the measurements and check yourself. It's actually kind of hard to find a BAD case unless you get one for $15 or something.

The 620w Antec I picked above the currently the best deal out there in the 500-750w range.

I just hit the submit button on my order. Only two hundred bucks over what I said I was going to spend, lol. The peripheries add up when you've been on laptops for the last several years. Thank you so much for the replies CTurbo. I largely took your advice. So excited for later this week.
