Extremely high CPU usage in games

Recently I built a gaming desktop with an i5-4690K, GTX 970, and 16gb ram. It has been great except my framerate is lower then I would expect it to be in games. I looked and in just about every game I played, my CPU was at 100%, causing my framerate to drop far below what the GTX 970 can output. The reason I'm concerned is my old laptop with an i7-3630qm(4@2.4) only ran 60% max usage in games but my higher clocked desktop CPU is sitting at 100 the entire time. I checked and my thermals are OK and the high usage is coming from the game itself, not any background processes. I have no idea what could be causing this so if anyone has an idea id love to hear it. Thank you!

Plainly put, the i7's are simply more efficient than the i5. I'm not an expert on CPU's but i do know that clock speed is not everything. For example I have an AMD FX-8350 which clocks at 4GHz but I know that most models of the i7 will out perform mine even though they have lower clock speeds. Again not sure but i think it has to do with how the work is allocated across cores...

Anyway, my suggestion to fix the frame rates, First check if all of your drivers are updated. In my experience you have to play with the settings for each game if the frame rate is unsatisfactory. In GTA V for example, I had to make sure all of the texture qualities were set to normal and sacrifice other graphics options to get it to 60fps.

I would say to look into overclocking if you haven't already. especially since you have the Intel K series. But I couldn't help you with overclocking.
