Ok, so I'm switching from AMD to Intel and I'm going with the 6700k. I love the new motherboards but what I'm wondering is if the M.2 will have an effect on running two 980 ti's or vice versa. Looking at the either the Hero Vlll or the MSI Gaming 7 but will defiantly consider other suggestions.

Thanks for the help guys!

on most motherboards the m.2 slots are powered by the PCIe lanes from the chipset, so it shouldnt effect the 980 ti's performance.

also, just so you know, you're talking about fairly high end boards for z170, so you might want to just jump up to x99...
what's is your budget for this build, and what do you already have from your old PC that you can re-use? do you have a OS you can use?

I was going to go with the 4790k but the mother boards didn't really have all the features I was looking for then I found out skylake was only about a month away so I decided to just wait. I would say my budget is around $2500 and the only components I need or was planning on upgrading are my cpu/motherboard, gpu's (have to 2 gtx 970's right now) and my memory.

Or I can just say fck it and buy a Denon x4100 receiver and SVS Prime Tower Surround system. Mmmmm...surround sound
