Hy!

First of all, I need extremely quick awnsers, becouse I can send my laptop back for full refound in a few days, or I can get a replacement, if its hardware failure. I had issues before with this series.

So, I have bought a Lenovo IdeaPad Z50-70 59-432146. It has a Nvidia GeForce 840M with 2 GB dedicated memory, 4 GB RAM, and a Intel Core i7 4510U processor. And I think its underperforming. I havent tried many games, but their framerate is extremly low. Borderlands 2 and DevilMay Cry 5 in full HD, with max settings (expect anti-alliasing, I turned that off) run with 20-15 FPS. Starcraft 2 with medium settings can get extremly laggy lategame, with lots of units on the map. Its average FPS is 40 wich is pretty sad rearding that Starcraft 2 is not a new game... Ingame GPU and CPU usage is around 50%, but it has still relatively low FPS.

The laptop is brand new. I forced dedicated graphics card in nVidia settings, and no power-saving options are enabled (as far as i know). FurMark runs with 7 FPS, and max temperature was 75 Celsius. It ran fr like 2 mins, and the laptop did not shut down, and there werent any issues. All drivers are installed from the offical Lenovo website, expect the vide card driver, which is from the offical nVidia site. I have upgraded BIOS to the last version. I have restarted the laptop every time I have changed video card settings, or other significant settings.I have reinstalled the video driver. I have Windows 7 installed, driver manager shows no conflicts, expect for one unideified device, and I have no idea what it is. But I dont think its important.
I have googled this problem, but none of the results were good. It feels like it is not using the dedicated video card, only the integrated, but I have set everything correctly (maybe i missed some small detail, but I have looked up everything)

So my question is if its a hardware problem, software, or my expectations are too high.

Thanks for help.

Solution
the gaming graphic cards from nvidia have gtx in front of it, I am afraid that a normal geforce 840m isn't really going to give you the performance you want.

you can select wich applications are forced to use the nvidia graphics in the nvidia controlpanel (right click desktop - nvidiacontrolpanel)
otherwise it will use the onboard graphics so intel hd something which isn't really good for gaming.

at nvidia control panel click manage 3d settings - select a program to customize (your games) - change " select the preferred graphics processor for this program" to high performance nvidia processor.

i hope this fixes it

In Windows 7 energy managment is set to performance oriented.

I have changed the default GPU to nVidia, and also set it for my games, also set energy managment to maximum performance.

how much did the laptop cost? because if u had a refund you could spend it on a desktop pc wich gives way more performance for a better price, only downside to that is that you can't really take it with you

Well, maybe you are right, but this still bugs me. As I said Starcraft is no a new game, but still have low FPS with 50% GPU and CPU usage. It never used its full capacity, wich is weird.
My 5 year old PC with an ATI Raedon HD 6770 graphics card and an i5 CPU can run smootly booth Borderlands and Starcraft on 1024x1280 resolution...
Also thanks for looking it up :)

You could play the games at a lower resolution, mayby try 720p, my old laptop had a 7670m, it could handle skyrim high-ultra with around 30 fps but i played that at 720p so not full hd
