so like title suggest i'm trying to install fresh windows 7 (for upgrading to windows 10) and i'm looking how can i split my HDD (465GB total) to seperate peaces , one for OS and other for data like games/pictures etc.
i want that because incase something happened or i wanted to wipe all my files i dont want to reinstall windows all over, i could just format data hdd part and move on.
the questions i have :

how can i choose what HDD partition i need to use
how much space i need to leave so that i would have no problem installing windows updates and such (and obv. upgrading to win10)
should i make system installation on (C: ) or (D: ) similar to first

and is there something else i should know

Hey there, tautvexe5.

You can do that while installing Windows 7 and here's a pretty thorough guide on how to do that (including pictures): http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/52291-partition-hard-drive-windows-7-install.html.
As for the C: drive (OS partition) - that really depends on how much stuff you want to install there, but I'd say that 100-120GB would do just fine. You should have plenty of space for program files, OS updates and to have a nice healthy free storage space buffer, so that your Windows partition doesn't run completely our of space.

Hope that helps.
