Hi,

I have 2 laptops that i'd like to connect using an ethernet cable. I don't have internet or have a router available, so I thought we may be able to connect my laptops using an ethernet cable.

When I connect the two laptops I am able to share files and move the across from each laptop easily enough, however when I try to connect to each other on games LAN functions, it doesn't work. I think it's probably something to do with needing to sort our IP's out to be compatible for LAN without an internet connection.

Does anyone know what I need to do to allow my laptops to connect to each other fully?

Thanks, LAK4

Solution
If that is the case, I do not know how u were able to share files. I would make 1 192.168.0.1 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and the other 192.168.0.2 with the same subnet.. You do not need a gateway. Hope that helps.
If you managed to connect the 2 together and share files, you must have accomplish 2 things. 1 a crossover cable (google it) and 2 put in static IP addresses because you have no router for dhcp server. Did you accomplish those? And if so, what are your IP addresses and gateway set to?

The whole concept of playing games on LAN was to avoid needing an internet connection

I do have a crossover cable which I used to connect the laptops. I'm looking at the IPv4 settings right now and they are all set to automatically obtain. Should I try changing these?
