Will this computer be future proof for the next four years?

Unless AMD Zen has 8 cores and double the performance of the 4790 I don't see Intel lowering the cost of greater than 4 cores. So 4 cores will be the standard for the foreseeable future.

It's not just the amount of processing cores but the architecture of the CPU itself. That's also why an Intel i5 (4 cores) is easily compared with an AMD FX 8xxx processor (8 cores). The "power" of a CPU is a relative term since it depends on Cache (L2 - L3), bus, memory controller, instruction set etc. .

Anyway, what I can say about your question is this: Yes your pc is "future-proof" since both your CPU and GPU are considerably "powerful" as well as the amount of your RAM (I'm talking about 1080p gaming. 4-K gaming is another topic since it is really demanding. I can only guestimate since the gaming industry is a vast-growing one and visualization technology is expanding fast and that's why I've not included 4-K in the conversation.).

Even a dual core i3 is better than an 8 core fx 8xxx at most computer tasks and games.
Only a select few games (BF4) and things like rendering videos does it surpass an i3.

Cores = wheels on a vehicle. It doesn't matter how many you have, it matters how fast they turn and how much of a load you're gonna carry. Do you need to commute to work in a semi-truck?
