I recently brought MSI GTX 980 TI Gaming 6G 2 week ago.
After have sometime playing with it .
I found out that my card seem to have high idle temp around 50-60 C, ( with Fan off)
As far as I know mostly should be around 30-40 C at Room Temp. 25-30 right ?

So I have to set fan on & change some curve during idle and it start getting better

Is it normal to get idle temp this high, most review said should be 30-40 with fan off

or I should send it back to check

Solution

Reviews are often done in open air configurations, with the board mounted horizontally rather than vertically. Sure those are best case scenario results but my card will idle at in the mid-40s for the first 1-3 hours of the system being turned on. Of course, after gaming for a period the card will not idle back in the 40s after closing out. It then idles in the mid to upper 50s like you stated. I took the OP as having high idle temps within the first hour of on state, anything else is normal.

It is worth mentioning that the fan does shut off on my card when not gaming or utilizing the GPU, despite the the temperatures being higher when compared to initial idles temps. Of course...

It does seem a little high.

However, idle temps can depend on alot on case cooling and ambient temperatures (CPU air vs. AIO Liquid, Front panel fan count, rear exhaust). My 980 Ti idles about 43 degrees, which seems pretty normal. Have you had issues with reaching throttle temperatures very quickly (83 C) or excessive fan speeds while gaming?

If not, I would say maybe add a small amount of rpm at idle if you wish to cool the card off a little. If the answers to the above are yes, consider RMA'ing the card as a $650 investment should meet your expectations and the above phenoma could indicate a faulty thermal paste/heatsink connection.

Hope this helps!

That is perfectly normal temps for that card. My card also stays around 55-60c with stock settings on idle. with a fan curve set my gpu temps stay around 35-40c while idle. No way those reviews are done with the fans off, those temps must be with MSI afterburning running in the background (with the default fan curve active). Also how many monitors do you have connected to your card? I found that with my 4 monitors connected my card stays at around 840Mhz making it idle slightly higher than what reviews show ( think with one monitor the cards stay around 300mhz)
