So the other day when I was test booting for the first time I had a problem with my PSU and it started to smell burnt after my motherboard popped. I have gotten a new MOBO and PSU arriving tomorrow. The thing is, my GPU(MSI R9 290) and CPU fan continued running when it happened but my PSU started to smell burnt. My whole room smelled bad and I can't figure out if my GPU picked up the smell when I packed it back up and its just kinda stuck in the plastic. I know I should probably send it back but I was wondering if you could still use it. I start school Wednesday and want to have it built since I've been waiting for my MOBO for 2 weeks. When I take it out of the package and let it sit out for like 10 minutes it stops smelling. Should I put it in the system and run it and if it starts to smell take it out and send it back? Thank you in advance and please keep it simple this is my first computer so I'm not familiar with all the terms.
