Not sure which processor I was better off getting.
So I built my computer today after getting some suggestions for a build from a follow TH subscriber. I was told that I should get the ( Intel Xeon E3-1231V3 Haswell 3.4GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1150 80W BX80646E31231V3 Server Processor) Over the (i7) because it was a little cheaper and had the same specs. From what I read on the reviews, other's agree. Problem is that it's a 32bit only processor and won't allow me to use more than 3.4 gb of my 16 gb of ram. Not too sure if i'm just wasting it at this point or if i'm better off returning this processor and buying the i7. Let me know what you think.
Thanks!

What am I looking for when I do that?

Yes, if it told you that it's running x86, then you're running a 32-bit version of Windows. The only solution to your problem would be to buy a 64-bit of Windows. You can message Microsoft, if you have a legit version of Windows. And try explaining your situation, and hope they can disable your 32-bit and give you a 64-bit key instead. It's a long shot though.

~All the best!

I have been running E3-1231V3 since October 2014 and I have 16GB RAM.

It is also written in the official spec from Intel, that E3-1231V3 runs on x64.
http://ark.intel.com/de/products/80910/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E3-1231-v3-8M-Cache-3_40-GHz

To make somethings clear too,
1. E3-1231V3 is a really processor for server like the other Xeons. The thing is, for home usage, you will notice no difference between i7 4790 and E3-1231V3.
Due to E3-1231V3's price, this processor became a nice alternative to i7 4790.
2. Intel's new processors, newer than core duo and solo (not to be mistaken with core 2 duo), are all x64. The RAM usage limit lies more Windows version. You must have the x64 installed to use more than 3.3GB RAM.

Yes you can, its a 64 bit processor like all modern intel cpus.

Sounds like you have installed 32 bit by mistake.
