Hey! I have an old yamaha receiver rx 450. Looking at adding a 4 ohm bass woofer 40hz-120hz. to my tannoy bookshelfs which are 8 ohms. Will my amp handle this set up. thx

Solution
If your idea is to connect a 4 ohm woofer to the speaker B terminals then you might damage the receiver. If it did play you would not be able to get both channels to a single voice coil woofer. No way to adjust how loud it would play in relation to your Tannoys. Could be too much or not enough.
I would suggest a powered subwoofer with speaker level inputs for your receiver. You could add a sub amp to the 4 ohm woofer if you wanted
