Should I upgrade my hardware now or wait for next gen? $750 budget

I use a lot of CPU intensive programs and game very seldom (but when I do game, I like a smooth and immersive experience a la Skyrim). Right now my current build is a:
i5 2500k CPU
ASUS Maximus V Gene micro board
12GB G.Skill Ripjaws (3x4)
970 GTX 4GB (actually, 3 GB last time I checked)
1000W modular PSU
Antec twelve hundred case

I’m feeling the need to build a new rig since upgrading to Windows 10 pro, seems a lot of programs hang… some signal is getting lost causing stuff to lock up and stutter. I can’t/refuse to go back to Windows 7 since 10 seems to run a lot faster natively - just seems like a lot of video rendering and CPU hogging programs don’t like my system now.

My question is; should I wait until Skylake to upgrade everything or will going with an x99 or z97 board with 4790k or 4690k give me the same speed or greater than my z77 board with an over-clocked 5.0Ghz 2500k and be future proof for the next 3-5 years?

I’m also thinking about upgrading the 970 video card to a 980 TI (or should I wait for something better?) because I don’t get more than 3GB of v-ram out of my current one. The only new parts I’m looking for are a CPU, motherboard, RAM and possibly upgrading my video card. Trying to keep my budget under $750 with a build that I can easily swap out better parts for in a year or two.

I would suggest getting another 4gb stick of ram just so that they all run in dual channel. It is cheap and will give you a small performance boost. A new cpu and motherboard can be a bit of a pain because of having to reinstall windows and all of your drivers and programs. I believe skylake was actually released a couple of days ago so if you have the money you might as well get the new i7 and a new motherboard if you are frequently using cpu intensive programs
